Financial Accounts Technician

Captures insurance information on all non-service connected, service-connected patients who hold third party health plans. Reviews and analyzes all case information, determines course of action to follow to recover debts. Resolves problems with debt collection. Negotiates acceptable monthly payment plan; prepares promissory note with full explanation and documentation. Makes inquiries as to the status of Tricare and ChampVA claims either by telephone, written or electronic correspondence. Reviews health insurance coverage with patients, explains issues such as deductibles, co-payments, length of stay, and other matters. Determines if collection action is to be pursued, if compromise should be solicited, if suspension should be recommended or if referral should be made to enforce collection. Prepares correspondence which may address full range of cost recovery activities. Establishes and maintain control for each case involved in billing procedure. Utilizes all comment areas on system for tracking and follow-up, as appropriate. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
healthcare reimbursements, processing third party insurance claims and preparing/explaining billing and eligibility entitlements to patients/individuals, calculating and processing vouchers and maintaining a tracking system utilizing Microsoft applications such as Word, Access, and Excel to prepare documents, utilizes knowledge of medical terminology and Health Care Procedural Coding System such as (ICD-9), CPT-4 to analyze potential errors on bills. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
The work requires no specific physical demand other than routine bending, and kneeling. Some travel may be required at times, work is performed in a sedentary office setting.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
